Amended Broadcast Codes [26 / 05 / 2010]
These are the General Communications Code and the Children’s Commercial Communications Code.
 • The revised codes update the standards that radio and television advertising, sponsorship, product placement and other forms of commercial communications broadcast in Ireland must meet.
• Paid product placement will not be allowed at this time but will be reviewed in 12 months time.
• The Codes apply to broadcasters within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Ireland. They don’t apply to other broadcast services commonly received here but which are licensed in the UK or other jurisdictions.
• The Codes give legal effect to transpose into Irish law, new European television regulations including the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive.
• Please note: theses codes do not cover intended new regulations for the marketing promotion of foods and beverages – these will be subject of a new Code which will be drawn up during the second half of this year.
